Last I looked, NYC was reporting that the number of daily recoveries, I.e. symptom free, was pretty close to the number of new cases. By the 21st, I expect that total US numbers will trend the same way, so 50k new cases vs 50k daily recoveries will be a wash.

And for perspective, 1 million total cases is less than 1/2 of 1% of the US population, I.e. 99.5% won’t get the virus, or if we do it will be annoying but not require medical intervention. Exclude NYC, and the the numbers for the rest of the country would look even better.

The outcome would have been better if the country had mobilized sooner, but nevertheless the sharp change in habits due to shutting down non essential activities appears to have worked.
