Chinese have always taxed the shit out of foreign made anything. It made them less competitive on quality and productivity, but always gives them a win on price because the internal sources are inherently subsidized.
Attempting to duplicate that in the west is a gross misstep. West just isn’t technologically that much farther ahead except in the blow things up and kill people department,,, but who knows.
Kinetic war would be wildly unpopular in today’s society. Far better to make an example of NK and Iran, Syria style than attempting imperialism. All out economic war seems coming but there are practicalities to consider. There is no capacity.
