planes aren't falling out of the sky.

Anyone who said planes will fall from the sky due to Y2K was & is a fool...

And it's the sort of image that the news media just loves to spin into their Y2K pieces. I believe our local station here in Boston had just such a piece last year... it closed with a video shot of a plane taking off & the voice over implying evil things.

What will happen is that planes simply won't leave the ground.

Don't know if you've seen the recent flap about IBM telling the FAA that some number of machines that run the air traffic control network will not be Y2Kok... the FAA is taking this under advisement.

There is no Y2K "crisis".

This is a classic Slick Willy reply... you're entirely correct. At this moment in time there is no Y2K crisis... systems are churning away just fine... however give it another 12 months & all hell breaks loose as lots of financial systems that look ahead a year start going funny.
