J6P -- I could be wrong, but today was one of the biggest share dumpers I've seen in months (incl. Oct.) with at one point 1.5M shares "changing" hands. There seemed to me to be serious divestiture in progress not to be accounted for by "... mad scrambling (for the DEC shorts) and CPQ longs." Why would massive selling today be followed soon by equivalent accumulation when the 2 corps have themselves stated that their merger would not be accretive until the end of '98. Money that's not working even for several weeks puts a big hole in my pocket and multiply that for the effect on institutions who could be making more with cash just sitting in a non-preferred money market account. However gloomy I feel at the moment, I hope your more optimistic view turns out to be correct. Just when MM'S were beginning to dip in again and share price was increasing, this deal comes along and we're back in downsville.
