I totally agree. I understand that everyone wants a piece of the pie and those that already bought rights want to get a return or at least break even but capitalism and risk don't guarantee every deal works out.
It just seems common sense would dictate that if you know where the oil/gas is and prices are low, you should cut back and just use the cheapest easy to get supplies and save the more expensive harder to get to stuff for later down the road when the easy stuff is gone, prices are driven up etc.
I wasn't keeping up the last few years but I recall in the 2000s that the Saudis were pumping sea water in their wells for a while because they were depleting. Like I said, I lost touch for a while so not sure what changed but everyone was worried about them and Mexico depleting. Oil was skyrocketing to $100 then we started fracking and all was well again.
Maybe someone could get me caught up on what changed in other markets or did our becoming an exporter just fill the void and we are making up the difference?
