joser-

that was great. it's uncanny how a good play-by-play sportscaster
can really make a game exciting... even if it's not.

i once saw a similar video on youtube where a creative fellow like your
dog-gamecaster guy was describing some footage of sailboat racing (at the
olympics maybe?? - the 30th Olymipiad - whatever THAT is?) the footage he was
describing was just of sailors positioning themselves for the start of a race but he made
it sound exciting -- and FUNNIE. it gave me the idea to use his audio to edit the footage
i had from a weekend race we had at heron lake one beautiful summer afternoon in 2012
(Labor Day Weekend). there was too little wind to race but the narrative made it sound exciting
and FUN. :-)

i DID get to watch eliza's facebook live CD release concert from her
living room. it was better done than most of the musical performances
we've been seeing while everyone's staying home. great audio also.
she had someone helping her at home... i don't know who... but she's
a pretty good producer/director herself... so it could have been anyone
in her home under her tutelage. her son, cisco, is a percussionist who
plays with her often and he's been producing some of her CD's and videos
lately.

for her last song she was paying tribute to john prine... said some really
nice things about him. said we should all strive to be like john. a decent
human being with a sense of humor about life and a moral code of "kindness".
she said she wanted to pick one of his songs that was particularly prescient
for today's world. the song was, "That's How Every Empire Falls". he didn't
write it but he DID record it on his "Fair and Square" EP in 2005 which contained
four bonus tracks that weren't on the original CD. i found this info on wikipedia.
i'd never heard the song before.

she did a beautiful performance. here's john (with the lyrics below)
a pretty good kumbaya selection for sitting around the virtual campfire
on a friday night at home. just imagine eliza singing it instead of john.

That's How Every Empire Falls
John Prine

Caught a train from Alexandria
Just a broken man in flight
Running scared with his devils
Saying prayers all through the night
Oh but mercy can't find him
Not in the shadows where he calls
Forsaking all his better angels
That's how every empire falls

The bells ring out on Sunday morning
Like echoes from another time
All our innocence and yearning
And sense of wonder left behind
Oh gentle hearts remember
What was that story? Is it lost?
For when religion loses vision
That's how every empire falls.

He toasts his wife and all his family
The providence he brought to bear
They raise their glasses in his honor
Although this union they don't share
A man who lives among them
Was still a stranger to them all
For when the heart is never open
That's how every empire falls

Padlock the door and board the windows
Put the people in the street
"It's just my job, " he says "I'm sorry."
And draws a check, goes home to eat
But at night he tells his woman
"I know I hide behind the laws."
She says, "You're only taking orders."
That's how every empire falls.

A bitter wind blows through the country
A hard rain falls on the sea
If terror comes without a warning
There must be something we don't see
What fire begets this fire?
Like torches thrown into the straw
If no one asks, then no one answers
That's how every empire falls.

Songwriter: R. B. Morris

i've decided to be like john prine for the REST of my LIFE...
decent and kind with a sense of humor. that's the REAL me. :-)

tanks for the suggestion eliza.
