I think our leaders and public institutions owe it to the people who pay them to not allow the message to be co-opted by the fringe or entertain them... And then... when you decide its all bullshit... and anything else is "fringe"... you silence the people who do know what they're talking about, when you don't... and 14% of the population dies. Again, that's not a hypothetical... as that's EXACTLY what happened in Wuhan...? Free speech works... because it doesn't require you to be right... it just requires you to not be silenced... when you might the only person with the right answer.
