Re: CYMI's competition
Robert, as I'd posted earlier, we may get some additional information about CYMER's competition tomorrow (Zack's lists Jan.27th as the reporting day for COHR).
Most likely though, COHR's report will have no immediate impact. Lambda plans to be competitive in next generation 193nm and 157nm markets (they had claimed some time ago to have about 40 working 157nm F2 lasers), but 248nm lasers being shipped/ordered now will come from CYMER and (according to James) can support both .25 and .21-.22 process.
Furthermore, according to a recent report on this thread, Akins had mentioned during a telephone conversation that CYMI lasers are now being used to replace earlier lasers models from other vendors. This may actually result in several lasers being shipped IN ADDITION to lasers ordered for new systems.
I believe that CYMI's coming numbers and outlook for 98 should compare quite positively with numbers/guidance from most of front-end equipment makers, especially from those involved in 300mm technology development. If there were any positive or negative information leaks, they sure didn't result (so far) in active buy or sell programs. What makes me uneasy is the possibility that CYMI's report will coincide with the selloff phase of the monthly trading cycle in the broader markets - just like it happened last quarter. I, for one, will be watching SOX and DOW very carefully tomorrow.
