The Wuhanic Plague plot thickens yet again, today... which is really bad news.

Once China allowed the viral genome to be published... and it was independently verified... it became clear that there were four insertions of exotic protein sequences altering the virus's surface proteins...

I'd noted the odds of that being "naturally occurring" were roughly the same as the odds of succeeding in walking to the moon this weekend.

One of those mods was readily identifiable... as the signature of common modification tools... leaving three others... two of which were "identified as similar to..." specific things... and one which wasn't. I was tracking the events in the work being done in this post in late February... to which I linked this article:

Scientists Discover HIV-Like "Mutation" Which Makes Coronavirus Extremely Infectious

But, of course... there were FOUR insertions... I posted about that later, somewhere, can't find it now... noting that one was a known, and "one down" left "two to go"... But it was also already clear that one was an HIV derivative sequence... and one apparently was a malaria-related protein... Still, I was complaining that I'd not seen any additional followup... no solid work describing them... even suggesting, given the trail left to follow, that a survey done of other spirochete proteins wouldn't be wasted effort... ?

Well, that might finally have been resolved today as far as "one more"... unless this is "more detailed information about the function of one of those we already knew about" ?
