When an MM sees a lot of stock coming at him, he may share the buy with you, provided that you have an account with the MM's firm... If you don't and he knows that another MM or a buyer is bidding a penny or two higher, he'll take it at a lower price and sell it back to you for the .01 or .02 profit for the firm...That's what may be happening when you see a trade on the bid and then the very next one is in between the bid and ask...

When all you see is trades that are happening in between the bid and ask prices, someone (like and insider) can be positioning somebody... If it's followed by a stagnant or a decline in price they are unloading stock on someone...In this instance they did that back in December/97...

If you stay with the MM's bid and you deal with the MM's firm there is a "chance" you may get a piece of the trade...Maybe but unlikely... The trick is to stay with the bid and the problem is that brokers don't like to CF orders...
