Simon passed away today. He was admitted to NY hospital for COVID-19 about a week ago. We suspect mistakes were made since at one point in time they had to operate on him because of the air behind his lungs and chest cavity. Eventually he had to be sedated so that they could pump air into his lungs. But not enough oxygen made it to him and earlier today he passed away due to multiple organ failure. Simon was a most loving person. Everyone who met him came away impressed with his humanity and compassion. He was always willing to help. He was always kind. Though he was not rich, he was always generous with both his time and his money. A rarest thing was to see him angry even when he had reasons to be so. He was never rude, even when he had to rush. He leaves behind a son who just got admitted to University, a loving wife who would give the world to see him again, and scores of friends and family who miss him dearly. Simon often spent his vacation time with us in Canada. Summers will not be the same without him. When Simon called for help, NYC said that if you can breath you should not go to a hospital. And so he suffered at home. When they finally took him in, they did not have a ventilator for him for 36 hours and his condition worsened during that time. In the end, the doctors just could not figure out what was wrong. His X-rays showed his lungs to be clear, but when they listened to his lungs it sounded like pneumonia and his body could not get enough oxygen, even with the ventilator. It will be a very very long time till I won't be angry when remembering this...he could have lived a long time...if he was here, first I'd hug him, then I'd beat the crap out of him for getting sick and dying...I wish that I could be in NYC, but the border is closed... |
