Two reasons..1) It is a lot cheaper than adding a card later and 2) There are limited expansion slots. I am not sure of the limitation but I think it is six or seven combined ISA and PCI slots. Most boards are six or less. If you add Modem,sound,Video,Network and SCSI you will have used most of your expansion capability. The downside is that you can't take your SCSI to the next motherboard when you upgrade the motherboard. Also you may be paying for something you don't need. I try to maximize the free expansion slots. For this reason I look for AGP , onboard sound and SCSI and ethernet on the motherboard. I plan on using the available PCI slots for future Video upgrades...A second monitor , video capture, 3D add on etc. Also I want at least one spare for ?? Dual CPU's If anyone is considering DUAL CPU's , make sure that it will benefit your application. You will cut your RAM in half. For example if you have 128MB RAM and dual CPU's NT will divide the RAM and only 64MB will be available per CPU. Also, an application must be multi threaded to make use of both CPU's. I don't know how it handles multi-tasking. Most motherboards I like have dual processor capability but I doubt that I will add the second processor. I believe the money will better be spent on RAM.
