Mindmeld,
How do you explain Taiwan's results then?

It's the exact opposite of doing nothing and pretending that there is nothing we could do.

Taiwan, like Korea, has experience dealing with pandemics.

They are a small nation with a homogeneous population.

They had a system to mobilize health care resources like hospital beds and ventilators, which they developed during the SARS outbreak.

They could track those who are infected and find out every place they visited.

They have their borders under control with few ports of entry.

And citizens there feel a culture stigma against getting infected. Like if you got infected, it was your fault that you didn't take enough precautions.

Compare that to here.

We are a huge nation with a diverse population, even among white people.

We have little experience dealing with pandemics.

It's much harder for us to track the movements of people, because the 4th amendment (which I still believe in).

Our borders are ridiculously porous. Even Trump's wall won't plug those holes.

And we have a culture that favors individualism over sacrificing for the greater good. (That's also something I still believe in.)

We really can't take the results that Taiwan and Korea saw for granted.
