Devin Nunes on Russia Investigation: 'Bastards' Need to Be Locked Up

Rep. Devin Nunes, R.-Calif., told “The Buck Sexton Show”on Thursday to expect additional criminal referrals after a declassified report shows the FBI relied on British spy Christopher Steele's dossier to secure a FISA warrant despite warnings of a possible Russian disinformation campaign.
Nunes commented on the Justice Department’s watchdog footnotes that were released by Sens. Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, and Ron Johnson, R-Wisc. The senators said the revelation is further evidence that the FISA warrant “was riddled with significant flaws.”
CBS News, which first reported on the declassification, posted one footnote that read, “Despite multiple reports in 2017 warning that claims in an anti-Trump dossier were “false” and “part of a Russian disinformation campaign,” the FBI continued to rely on the Democrat-funded opposition research to spy on a Trump campaign aide.”
PJ Media reported that the report is the first evidence from the FBI that the Steele dossier was a classic Russian disinformation campaign and it raises troubling questions into how the agency secured its surveillance warrants into Carter Page, the Trump campaign aide.
“Nobody wants these bastards locked up more than me,” Nunes told Buck Sexton.
Nunes, a House Intelligence Committee ranking member, said these agencies that knew about the Russian influence were also aware of his committee’s investigation into the matter.
“Guess what,” Nunes said. “They never told us about this information on Steele. Meanwhile, they put that information into the late-2016, Obama-ordered intelligence community assessment that,voilà, after Trump won the election, they had an assessment that said Russians were trying to help Trump.”
He said from the first day Robert Mueller started his investigation into the Trump campaign, his team knew the best they could do, is to try to get Trump with an “obstruction of justice trap.”
“They knew there were never any Russians,” Nunes said. “They knew they made all this up; they knew that Steele wasn’t trustworthy; they knew the Clinton campaign paid for it; they hid it all.”
Attorney General William Barr signaled earlier this week that federal officials involved in the launch of the 2016 investigation into the Trump campaign could end up facing criminal charges.
Barr told Fox News that, in his own view, “the evidence shows that we’re not dealing with just the mistakes or sloppiness.”
“There was something far more troubling here. We’re going to get to the bottom of it. And if people broke the law and we can establish that with the evidence, they will be prosecuted.
The Associated Press reported that the FBI did not rely on the dossier to open the Russia investigation in 2016, but it did rely on the data in its effort to secure the Page warrant.
Michael Horowitz, the inspector general, said there was no evidence the FBI was motivated by political bias, but made serious errors in the Page application process.
Nunes said Trump is likely the only person who wants charges more than he does.
“Hopefully these dirty cops will be locked up for a very long time,” Nunes said. |
