ADA, Okla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 27, 1998--Pre-Paid Legal Services, Inc. (ASE: PPD - news), today reported
record results for the fourth quarter and the year ended December 31, 1997.

Net income for the fourth quarter of 1997 rose 57 percent to $5,471,000 from $3,486,000 for the same period in 1996, while
revenues rose 57 percent to $26,345,000 from $16,770,000 for the 1996 period. Earnings per share, diluted, increased 50
percent to 24 cents per share from 16 cents per share for the comparable quarter of 1996.

Net income for 1997 rose 51 percent to $18,790,000, or 83 cents per share, diluted, from $12,470,000, or 56 cents per
share, diluted, reported in 1996. The year's revenues surged 56 percent to $92,468,000 from $59,208,000 for 1996.

While revenues increased 56 percent as a result of new memberships written, cash flow exceeded cost of operations and
acquisition of new business and resulted in positive cash flow from operations of $7,733,000 for 1997 compared to $942,000
for 1996 resulting in cash and investment balances of $29,467,000.

For the fourth quarter of 1997, the company reported adding 75,636 new members, 44 percent above the 52,414 new
members gained during the same period in 1996. As a result, 283,723 members were added during 1997, increasing new
memberships 46 percent above the 194,843 new members gained in 1996.

''We remain very excited about the continued growth in membership sales generated by our independent sales force. This
continued growth, together with the joint marketing relationships announced during the last quarter of 1997 with CNA and
Primerica Financial Services, provides a great beginning for 1998,'' Harland Stonecipher, Chairman, said.
