KOAN,

Let me give you my opinion on the subject!

You are conflating IQ by comparing it to one’s political persuasion with your supposition being that you cannot have a high IQ and be a Republican. It appears you equate intellectual aptitude as being exclusive to Democrats. Let me give you an example—I have a cousin that holds a BS, ME, MD, and MBA degree. He is a friend of John Bolton and thinks he hung the moon. My cousin has held had no job since college (which he went to college on a government financed program)) where he was not paid by a city government, a state funded college, the federal government. He is one arrogant individual and will lecture you or me about the government intrusion on our lives.

Dr. Roger Farr was a close friend of mine and if you look at his bio you will note that he was one of the world’s leading gurus for standardized testing for our students---if Roger was still alive he would disagree with your conclusions.

Being an intellectual and making irrational personal decisions are not foreign to realities we see daily. For example—Isaac Asimov—he co-wrote an elementary science program that my company published. Here is a man who had written numerous books about space travel and futuristic topics. I had the occasion where I had been asked by a major educational organization for me to arrange to have Asimov being the keynote speaker for their national conference. For such requests I only had to contact the staff in the home office that scheduled our speaker request—I had never been refused with my requests.

Now bear in mind, at the time Asimov lived in Connecticut. I got the proper person who handled travel arrangements on the phone. I made known what I wanted and then the person told me that I couldn't use Asimov for this meeting. (After all these years I cannot remember the city where the conference was being held but it was in the mid-west -- might have been Denver.) I questioned the individual about the reason he couldn't make the conference. The reply was they could not get him to the conference. I was stunned! I told the person it was simple—get him to JFK, LGA or BOS and put him on a plane and I would meet him at the airport. The person said that is the problem---the man who had written all these futuristic books about space exploration-----would not get on a airplane! He would only travel to distance places if he could ride a train. And for him taking a train would take several days to get to and from this meeting.

My point, KOAN, is that I do not know if Asimov was a Republican or Democrat---I only know he was an intellectual guru who had odd personal habits. Richard Nixon was considered as being a very intellectual person---but he also had bad personal habits! Bill Clinton could complete the New York Times daily puzzle in about 10-15 minutes—with me being a crossword puzzle fan---Clinton has a high IQ—but he has personal issues!

I enjoy your posts---but this is simply my take on the dichotomy we can find in one’s intellectual capacity and their political beliefs.
