Think of the big picture. Envision in your minds eye the human species, good, bad and ugly over 15,000 years of cultural evolution.
First we settled down, grew crops and traded. We slowly developed math and language. Then we discovered science and democracy.
Once the democracies took hold, and the printing press had been invented along with many new ideas discovered, we entered the age of enlightenment.
And by the 1800's we were cooking. Schools popped up everywhere and science was the talk of the day and out of that magnificent time geniuses like Maxwell and Einstein, Bohr and Heisenberg, strutted their stuff and showed us a truly amazing universe; and along with this amazing new universe over that 100 years, in the last century,:
we got the vote for women, eliminated black chain gangs in the south, got rid of segregation, and even made gay marriage legal, got social security, medicare and unemployment insurance and welfare.
So we climb the mountain two steps up, and one step back, and two steps up.
Over the last 15,000 years, we humans have climbed a mountain.
