Similar situation in Germany where the houses were limited to keep rents too high.

Owners were the ones who built post-war. The newspaper with real state ads for renting flats came Wednesday after noon.
Husband and wife and a few people at the ready.

They bought 2 issues. quick scan and rush to pay phones. I was surprised then started reading on how it worked there.

People just gave up on owning a home and just rented. That I reckon left a lot of income for consumption.

I tried to explain to my friends (I worked for German Siemens AG in their overseas projects) that in Brazil you consume less but as soon as you can afford you buy your accommodation.
That was a new concept for them.
