Penni, I agree wholeheartedly. One of the most effective punishments when I was young was to have my father return from work to the tales of my misbehavior. He would, after a time, and sadly (so it seemed to me) take me into the basement, have me lean over the bench and spank me with a thin paddle. I never remember it hurting, but the ritual aspect was extremely effective, as was the knowledge that he was very unhappy about having to do it.
