Sure. One's an idea, the other is a proof. Newton's Apple was an anecdote. It took a full century or more before someone was able to actually observe the Gravitational Constant in a real experiment. It was anecdotal for at least 100 years!

Even today, while the mathematics behind the Feynman Diagram are now understood (thanks to the late Freeman Dyson), most people who study the diagrams don’t comprehend why they work. They just know they do. A mere anecdotal solution to essentially all who use them.

Here is the distinction you are missing. Lots of ideas are initially presented anecdotally. The question is whether the presented anecdote is capable of being scientifically investigated. It may or may not be. But if it can be, it is a scientifically proper question.

To argue that the VA study was less scientific than the numerous other studies that have been done is silly.
