I have spent a life time trying to understand wisdom and the universe. I do not believe in gurus or systems of wisdom and I eschew all dogma. I think it was Einstein who said :"I am the wisest of all as I know nothing."

Most people want the "Cliff" notes for wisdom, but it cannot be found there. IMO, the only place wisdom can be found is in a life time of learning from as many people as possible and keeping all options open and always aware of our ignorance and blind spots.

Wisdom is a long hall that takes a life time and is most important for one primary reason. My study of the human species over my long life has clearly shown me that most suffering in the world is the result of ignorance.

So education, by any means, IMO is essential for forming humanitarian societies and there is simply no substitute.

To see how much education breeds wisdom and humanity I would point to the series "Downtown Abbey" . It is the perfect example of world wide thought just 100 years ago and look how barbaric and ignorant the people were of even basic decency, equality and civil rights.

But around 100 years ago the world started instituting public education around the world, and today we have basic equality for all races, colors, creeds and genders around the world and our societies are much more sophisticated and humane.

My primary efforts my entire life has be help people and especially the down trodden.
