I would like to comment that the history of populism finds many traditional political triumphs and tragedies.

Left and right.

In times of fear and economic disparity, people across various spectrum's turn to populism. One could argue that Pol Pot was a Populist. And Ross Perot. And Bernie. But no sane person would conflate them.

The odd thing in Trumps case is while he (like his populist anti-state mentor Steve Bannon) is an elitist to the max - when stripped of the bullshit. Add to that "opportunist."

The thing about Populists like George Wallace is that everyone outside the privileged fatcats can find something they agree with in the platforms. And they/we tend to filter out the uuuuuuugly parts.

God I miss baseball.
