Craig,

<<<It is becoming obvious that Compaq intends to become a player in the enterprise space, given their acquisitions of Tandem and DEC. It will be interesting to watch what they do with Fibre Channel as they move beyond hubs.>>>>

I believe Compaq want to expand on their mid-range server type business. DEC is really not a growing company. They manage to cut cost and keep the same revenue and became profitable. Their strength is in worldwide presence in services, distribution, servers, storage. I believe one item Compaq/Dec will work on together quickly is to solidify a best solution to provide 'NT/clustering(probably FC capable)'. It is this new solution that will provide new opportunity for FC switching. They will be competing head to head with HWP, SUN and IBM for this business. A good 'clustering' solution can use cheaper PC-like devices to operate like a single powerful server(which in most cases are more expensive).
