TJ I presume it is UV-C band which is very high energy light and burns living micro organisms what I meant is UV-A and B band which for prolonged time you can get skin poisoning and health damaging (UV B) but for shorter times kills bugs.

There should be a balance of UV spectrum and proper time for virus killing without tissue damage.
The problem IMHO is also the destruction of the beneficial microbes cultures in your mouth that help the immune system destroy damaging pathogens.
