Got a rare call the other day from a ninety-something uncle by marriage in Montana. He's a life-long trapper who left NJ with my aunt for the wide open spaces when I was in my teens, an indicator that I should be hesitant to bring up anything political. I did ask about the situation out there, though, and was a bit surprised to hear that people were wearing masks and keeping social distance.

Also had a rare contact with a cousin in Arizona. It seems she has discovered Q and thinks people are sheep and stupid for believing what's in the media. I thought better of engaging her on the subject. Fortunately the contact was via email so I could conveniently ignore it.

I have been careful in my six years of semi-institutional living not to talk politics (or religion) with my neighbors. It's not constructive to disrupt the peace and tranquility. But a brief encounter this morning about our institutional confinement with one I know only in passing evoked a comment from him that our D governor would soon be shamed into opening things up. I could not resist asking him why he used the word, shamed. The governor is, after all, following federal guidelines and the science, unlike some of our neighbor states. I offered that the governor might be forced but never shamed into changing course. Then I listened a bit to how this is just a bad flu.

I don't discuss politics with anyone but this thread and two close friends. My limited recent encounters indicate the continued holding of the tongue.
