Lotus Development and Sun Microsystems Announce Availability of Integrated Corporate Messaging and Internet Solutions for Lotus/Sun Reseller Channel Solutions Simplify Deployment of Lotus Domino with the Sun Enterprise 450 Workgroup Server
ORLANDO, Fla., Jan. 27 /PRNewswire/ -- Lotus Development Corp. and Sun Microsystems,Inc. (Nasdaq: SUNW - news) today announced that two recently introduced, easy-to-deploy messaging and Internet solutions for corporate customers are now available in the U.S. through resellers authorized by Sun and Lotus. The Sun(TM) Enterprise(TM) 450 workgroup server and Lotus Domino solutions help businesses more easily purchase and implement high-performance,mission-critical Internet, intranet and extranet applications on a highly secure, scalable and manageable platform. The two Lotus offerings now available in the U.S. are:
-- Lotus Domino Mail server, which enables the deployment of messaging,integrated calendaring and scheduling, news groups, discussions and Web access in a single manageable, reliable and scalable infrastructure.
-- Lotus Domino server, which offers an integrated set of services, in addition to the features of Domino Mail, that enable customers to easily create secure, interactive business solutions for the Internet,extranets and corporate intranets.
Included with both solutions is a 10-user license for the Lotus Notes client and a Domino training and support package which includes a solution ''cookbook'' for VARs to easily configure this ''recipe'' for their customers.
The solutions will run on the Enterprise 450 workgroup server. With this system, Sun has combined enterprise-class functionality with seamless PC interoperability and ease-of-use at competitive PC server pricing. The system offers customers a reliable and secure platform for deploying business-critical applications at the workgroup. A high-performance,symmetric multi- processing (SMP) system, the Enterprise 450 server combines power, storage capacity, fast I/O throughput and exceptional network I/O speed for an outstanding value. This joint offering exemplifies a continuing effort by Lotus and Sun to provide one of the industry's most complete intranet/extranet solutions for the enterprise. Pricing and Availability
In the U.S., Sun resellers can purchase these solutions from the Sun Master Resellers -- Access Graphics, Ingram Micro and Merisel. Resellers get the Enterprise 450 server with the Solaris operating environment and either Domino or Domino Mail. Included with each solution is the following:
-- A 10-user license for Lotus clients (choice of Lotus Notes Desktop,Lotus Notes Mail or Lotus Mail).
-- A coupon for a three-day course, "Release 4.6 Domino Messaging Administration for Sun Enterprise Workgroup Servers," that teaches administrators to set-up, operate and maintain Domino Mail servers and support messaging users. The coupon is redeemable at InfoImage education or GE Capital IT Solutions, Educational Services.
-- Coupons for three Domino support calls.
-- A solutions "cookbook," or set of instructions, designed to help resellers custom-configure these solutions for their customers.
