Choosing not to wear a mask in public doesn’t make you tougher or more masculine. It makes you an asshole.
Masks are hard to get. You could tear up some old clothes, but many people won't do that right. If you don't dispose of disposable masks they probably have reduced effectiveness in direct terms and indirectly could be a way to spread the disease (if the mask didn't encounter any virus it didn't protect, if it did it might have but now you have the virus on the outside, people tend to adjust them and could touch their face, or when you take it off and put it back on it might wind up infecting you).

Oringally people were told that masks wouldn't help. Then they start saying you should or even have to wear masks without having much chance for much people to get them. I do see them available online now but mostly from unknown companies with bad reviews or with something like two or three reviews. One I did find with a lot of positive reviews had a picture review by showing it as to thin to be all that effective. Another problem is that you put in an order and it doesn't arrive for a long time..

That having been said I still think that wearing masks will be beneficial. But until about a couple of billion or more reasonably cheap and reasonable quality masks have been dumped on the market I wouldn't call people assholes for not wearing them.

I would be more likely to do that for someone who won't social distance in places like grocery stores, and definitely would call someone who intrudes on your space while your trying to social distance an asshole.
