Much as this action on WDC's part hurts me personally, (I own a lot of the stock and liked the dividend), I'm not sure it was the wrong move. WDC is a very leveraged company and if they can pay off an extra $600/million of debt per year this should give them more flexibility and staying power. I think if we are learning anything during this correction/bear market, it is that the balance sheet matters more than we have acknowledged. Even with rates as low as they are the over leveraging has hurt WDC. And if they are the company we think they are then they should be able to pay off the $4B fairly rapidly and that should then be reflected in the stock price. At least that's what I'm hoping...
