5/1/2020 Contest update (Contest YTD is calculated from 1/3/2020 close.) Mayday! Mayday! Mayday! This was the shout that echoed through Wall Street’s canyons on May Day. Regrettably, no one was there to rescue investors and Friday’s plunge was an ominous beginning to the month. At Friday’s close, the Contest median was down -10.24% YTD (vs. down -6.22% YTD a week ago), the Nasdaq Biotech Index (NBI) was up 2.32% YTD (vs. up 6.63% YTD a week ago), the smaller-cap S&P Biotechnology Select Industry Index (SPSIBI) was down -2.76% YTD (vs. up 3.90% YTD a week ago), while the Nasdaq Composite Index (NCI) was down -4.61% YTD (vs. down -4.28% YTD a week ago). JBOG’s portfolio lost ground but still holds a substantial Contest lead with a 65.72% YTD gain. YVR’s portfolio got a big boost from CAPR’s Covid-19 PR and took second place with a 47.43% YTD gain, while FILO’s portfolio, up 39.17% YTD, dropped to third place. At Friday's close, 14 of the 42 Contest portfolios were in the green, with 13 beating the NBI and 16 beating the SPSIBI. The 197 Contest stock picks have an average YTD gain of 4.89% and a median YTD loss of -10.33%. Below is the Top Ten list. Also below are the Top 5 & Bottom 5 Stocks for the week ranked by % Gained and % Lost YTD. (Prices not converted to US$ in these Tables.) Portfolio adjustments: ARYC resumed trading. (All corrections, especially adjustments for splits & mergers, greatly appreciated.) Stay safe and enjoy the first May, 2020 weekend biotechies! Peace & good health, Bulba
