Why use old superior drugs and make peanuts when you can create new inferior ones (remdisivir) and make billions?

So a few hundred thousand people die. There are already too many people on this planet anyway and people die all of the time, but huge money making opportunities only come along once in a while. Why care about those people? They are just....people. You gotta take care of yourself and your family.

I guess that is the line of thought those demons use.
