Well, we are now out of the complete lock down of the country that started about 5 weeks ago. That was referred to as stage 5. We are now in stage 4 with several restrictions lifted and more businesses can now operate.

South Africa has a population of about 59 million and there's been about 7600 confirmed COVID-19 cases, with about 2800 recoveries and 148 deaths. That's about 148/7600 = 2% death rate of the confirmed cases and about 148/59000000 = 0.00025% of the population, or about 3 per million inhabitants.

I'd say that's a lot better than many other countries out there, especially when one considers a country like Italy which has a population of about 60 million and they have had over 29000 deaths !

Our President put a lock down in place before we had any reported deaths and all traffic to and from the country was stopped all together.

Unfortunately there are areas of the country where the population densities are quite high and those are more vulnerable to the spread of this kind of disease. Food parcels have been regularly handed out to those who are in need and the large supermarket chains also contribute in that regard.
