I view Cymer's excess capacity as a marketing plus vis a vis the competition who has not yet demonstrated volume production capability. Remember also how long and difficult the production rampup was for Cymer; surely it will not be easier or quicker for Komatsu or Lambda Physik. Also, according to Akins, it is the end user who specifies which laser is used in the stepper. As of last Sept. all chip makers' DUV stepper orders into Nikon, Cannon and ASM had specified the Cymer laser, according to Akins. And as Robert Grutza pointed out, SVGI is strictly a Cymer customer. Now considering all the learning that goes into readying the new tool for production I doubt that chip makers will want a different variety tool unless it promises a greater sustainable throughput. And the greater throughput and reliability of the Cymer laser is where the battle is being won. All else is BS. Tulvio
