Oh Michael, I didn't mean that you wouldn't feel angry or even that you wouldn't show it! You know, I think it would be worse if you seemed like an emotionless automaton--I think I mean rage more than anger. Anger is good; anger is CARING. As for the military thing-and the humor. That's great!--the best kind! In family jokes and rituals are wonderful. We've always had what we call "The Westbrook Family Hug". It always followed family discipline, talks, conferences, fights. The boys will still call for it occasionally. If I had confidence in a school administration, perhaps I wouldn't object to their judgment in discipline matters, but I didn't at that time and doubt that I would now either. As parents who didn't believe in corporal punishment, why would we let anyone else at school hit our children?
