5/8/2020 Contest update (Contest YTD is calculated from 1/3/2020 close.) Although Covid-19 looks like it will be with us for quite some time, you wouldn’t know that from the week’s action on Wall Street. Ignoring bearish economic news stocks charged ahead, with no less than three Contest portfolio stocks more than doubling this week. At Friday’s close, the Contest median was up 1.51% YTD (vs. down -10.24% YTD a week ago), the Nasdaq Biotech Index (NBI) was up 8.56% YTD (vs. up 2.32% YTD a week ago), the smaller-cap S&P Biotechnology Select Industry Index (SPSIBI) was up 6.55% YTD (vs. down -2.76% YTD a week ago), while the Nasdaq Composite Index (NCI) was up 1.11% YTD (vs. down -4.61% YTD a week ago). Contest leader JBOG’s portfolio took flight again and finished the week with a phenomenal 94.69% YTD gain. FILO’s portfolio, up 70.09% YTD, moved back to second place while IPOL’s portfolio, up 56.62% YTD, hopped into third place. At Friday's close, 24 of the 42 Contest portfolios were in the green, with 15 beating the NBI and 17 beating the SPSIBI. The 197 Contest stock picks have an average YTD gain of 14.67% but still a median YTD loss now being -2.76%. Below is the Top Ten list.
