He had vascular dementia so it's a blessing in a way.

He had lung congestion over the past few days, so it's a good possibility it was the pandemic. But no one seems interested to confirm whether that's the case.

I got to say goodbye to him last Thanksgiving when he remembered who I was during a lunch I shared with him.

The clouds of vascular dementia parted for an hour and the Dad I knew was there for a short time. Pretty amazing actually.

Although he found it difficult to express abstract ideas, when he realized who I was he reached out and touched my hair saying with amazed confusion, "Your hair's all grey." I told him his little boy was going on Medicare in a couple of months and he shook his head, like he couldn't believe it.
