It is believed that the Balylonian Talmud was written by the Israelites who stayed in Babylon and did not return to Israel when God let them out of captivity and led them home. Did they write this thing to fill in the gap left after the departure of the Priesthood with the rest of the people when they decided to stay in their captivity? If so then when God destroyed the Temple and the Priesthood and Israel no longer could practice the Law under the Old Covenant did this Babylonian Talmud spread to fill in the void left by the absence of the Temple and the Priests?
