Loosing faith is not hard with Raptor. Still, the merger between CPQ and DEC may be positive for Raptor. DEC was a customer, but not really a strong one as I gathered they also had their own product to sell. I'm guessing that this merger will further push the NT strength into the future which somehow I feel is good for Raptor.

As we al need to look at Axent, is this merger good for the new company?

The thing that really pisses me off is to see the continual progression of Checkpoint. These guys have really been good where Raptor just sat on its laurels and let the market slip through it's fingers. Seems like CHKPF had no technical advantage, but just kicked ass with good selling strategies. Now they have such a large piece of the market, they will be hard to beat.

Sure would be nice if CPQ threw some more weight into investment with Raptor.

Regards,

Mark

AT&T Introduces AT&T WorldNet Managed Firewall Service

WASHINGTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--January 27, 1998--Addressing the burgeoning need for corporate networking security, AT&T today introduced the AT&T WorldNet(R) Managed Firewall Service which lets companies outsource the technical complexities of firewall security to the experts at AT&T. The AT&T WorldNet Managed Firewall Service protects corporate Intranets and LANs from unwanted intruders while providing authorized users with access to corporate data and the Internet.

The AT&T WorldNet Managed Firewall Service provides the key components required for network security including the design and installation, monitoring, management and maintenance of a software-based firewall. To deliver this service, AT&T is deploying the industry-leading Check Point(tm) FireWall-1(R) enterprise security solution developed by Check Point Software Technologies Ltd.(Nasdaq: CHKPF - news). The firewall service is powered on a fully scalable, mission critical Sun Microsystems' Sun(tm) Enterprise Server.

This is a fully-managed firewall solution where AT&T security experts proactively monitor the network and the customer's on-premises equipment (routers, servers, and operating system), and respond to security threats or break-in attempts. Additionally, AT&T monitors the performance and capacity of the key components deployed at the customer's site.

AT&T also manages several phases of a company's network security policy and operation, including implementation, operations, ongoing configuration management as well as additions and changes to security rules. AT&T allows the customer to customize the solution to fit their specific security needs by selecting from a menu of management capabilities. Specifically, AT&T provides:

architectural validation, design and engineering, and installation maintenance procedures for all components day-to-day management of the firewall server,

software, and router

proactive network monitoring 24 hours a day, 7 days a week with prompt notification of break-in attempts monitoring, diagnosis, and fault resolution of customer premises equipment (routers, servers, and operating system) around-the-clock customer support customer control of user additions and deletions as well as usage parameters detailed reports to track CPE faults and firewall performance a single point of contact for all AT&T installed and managed components

''AT&T has an unsurpassed record of reliability and leadership in managing world-class networks, including voice, data, and IP networks. This service gives companies access to some of the best technological minds in the business who are trained in the latest security techniques,'' said Ed Nalbandian, services vice president, AT&T Managed Network Solutions.

Companies that outsource their firewall management to AT&T minimize their investment in capital, eliminate the frustration of hiring and retraining in-house security experts, and protect their security solution from technical obsolescence as AT&T assumes responsibility for continually upgrading the technology to protect corporate data.

Robust authentication and operational features

AT&T's Managed Firewall Service authenticates that users are ''who they say they are'' through the use of reusable and one-time passwords. Additionally, AT&T provides authorized customer network administrators the ability to click on an icon to instantly add and delete users, restrict or allow user access to services (such as FTP so users can securely transfer files) and portions of an Intranet.

The AT&T WorldNet Managed Firewall Service supports the major protocols so that users can take advantage of specific TCP/IP services, such as: HTTP which lets employees access public information and gives customers/partners access to corporate public web pages; SMTP so users can send and receive email outside their corporate network; NNTP that lets companies send and receive news feeds; FTP for file transfer; and Telnet terminal emulation protocol. In addition, customers can specify up to five additional services to be supported through the firewall.

AT&T fully supports FireWall-1's Network Address Translation capabilities at the firewall for customers with insufficient or invalid IP addresses. This allows customers to keep their internal addressing schemes and still communicate via the Internet. It also allows customers to hide their internal IP address space behind the firewall for added security.

Initially the AT&T WorldNet Managed Firewall Service will be available for use with the AT&T WorldNet Managed Internet Service Plus, which provides dedicated access to the Internet at access speeds ranging from 56K to T45. It will be available for use with the AT&T WorldNet Virtual Private Network Service later this year.

AT&T Corp. is the world's premier communications and Internet services company, serving more than 90 million customers, including consumers, businesses and government. The company has annual revenues of more than $52 billion and 130,000 employees. It runs the world's largest, most sophisticated communications network and is the leading provider of long-distance data transport and wireless services. AT&T is the number one pure Internet services provider in the U.S. and operates in more than 200 countries and territories around the world.
