Puzzlement 1: Perhaps it is our concept of time that is flawed. Does the continuum as we know it really exist, with a beginning and end?
Puzzlement 2: Hell, like time, has been defined in terms we can easily understand, whether or not we accept the notion. Call this patronizing or outright manipulative, it is nonetheless effective.

Therefore 1: The Bible has been interpreted by people. Those interpretations have in turn been interpreted (Calvin, Luther, "Holy" Roman Empire, etc.) to create entire denominations for others to blindly follow. It's likely not the Bible doing the lying.
Therefore 2: (Unless you were speaking metaphorically) A human condition such as clinical insanity would not apply, unless of course you believe rain occurs when God takes a leak.
Therefore 3: Our limited definition/understanding of God is flawed.
