Flynn and the Russian ambassador Kislyak talked about sanctions. According to prosecutors, during his FBI interview Flynn denied talking to Kislyak about sanctions. They prosecuted him for this "lie".

Here's the problem: the subject of sanctions was not discussed in the FBI interview!

In the FBI interview, they talked about expulsions and closings, but not sanctions. This is not a weaselly parsing of words. Media accounts make the distinction between these terms. Flynn himself distinguishes between the terms in media interviews.
