5/22/2020 Contest update (Contest YTD is calculated from 1/3/2020 close.) What’s that? Judging by the performance of their stocks, you might think that’s how small-cap biotech investors would respond to a question about Covid-19. Here are the week’s copacetic statistics. At Friday’s close, the Contest median was up 10.97% YTD (vs. up 6.26% YTD a week ago), the Nasdaq Biotech Index (NBI) was up 12.78% YTD (vs. up 11.66% YTD a week ago), the smaller-cap S&P Biotechnology Select Industry Index (SPSIBI) was up 13.69% YTD (vs. up 9.74% YTD a week ago), while the Nasdaq Composite Index (NCI) was up 3.37% YTD (vs. up 1.11% YTD a week ago). JBOG’s portfolio, up 104.81% YTD, remains our Contest leader, but second place FILO’s portfolio, up 92.38% YTD, had a big week and closed the gap by quite a bit. IPOL’s portfolio, up 70.88% YTD, held on to third place. At Friday's close, 31 of the 42 Contest portfolios were in the green, with 18 beating the NBI and 18 beating the SPSIBI as well.
