What! There's a 64 megabit Static Random Access Memory device out
there! Your "friend" must be an idiot, SRAM = Static Memory i.e.
cache. SDRAM = Synchronous Dynamic Random Access Memory.

Also if he/she thinks that the 256Mbit DRAM (plain old EDO) is going
to be a viable product in 99 or 00 then they should rethink their career.

SDRAM will be the major memory with SLDRAM and RDRAM (SyncLink and
Rambus) taking some of the pie. EDO parts will be like FPGs are now.
No mamnufacturer in their right mind would put money into an EDO part
by then.

Also Micron already has a 64Mbit SDRAM out and at 93mm2 it is one of the smallest 64Mbit SDRAMs out there. (data from Chipworks).

Another point (it seems useless on a report so poor) is that Micron
does not need to BUILD another FAB. They converted both Fabs in Boise
to 8 inch all the while producing. I see no change in strategy for the 12 inch conversion when they take it on. Although I see Micron
more likey to shrink like hell thus delaying the wafer conversion.

BOTTOM LINE: Silicon Valley Asscociate ill informed...
