(‘Gatekeeper’ or the ‘Company’) (TSXV:GSI) (OTC:GKPRF) (FSE:1GK), a leading provider of intelligent video solutions for public transport and smart cities, is pleased to announce that the Company has been contracted to equip 145 school buses in Halifax, Nova Scotia with intelligent video recording solutions. The Halifax Regional Center for Education is the largest school system in Atlantic Canada, serving 52,000 students in 135 schools.
Gatekeeper’s Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) business model is centered around its intelligent video recording devices that record, store, and wirelessly transmit video and audio from multiple devices. These digital video recorders also serve as the “black box” to aid in accident investigations. Customers can customize their configurations by choosing from the Company’s comprehensive product suite which includes:
Video Analytics Software - records time, location, audio, and video, enabling quick and easy assembly of video evidence needed to deal with school bus problems such as bullying, grazing, vaping, or verbal abuse.
Stop Arm Camera - records license plate information day or night, of vehicles that illegally pass a school bus when the stop arm is deployed. Gatekeeper’s optional proprietary software also automates the ticketing process of stop-arm infractions.
360° Camera - provides the driver with 360° real-time imaging, automatically activated at pre-programmed parameters. The 360° view is displayed within the vehicle’s specialized rear-view mirror system allowing drivers to monitor school children all around the bus.
Interior Camera - records the video and audio activity on the bus interior using adjustable vandal-resistant cameras.
Tactical Ready Kit - is a portable unit that allows law enforcement personnel to obtain quick and easy display of the internal video and audio of a school bus in close proximity, even while in motion.
The use of video on school buses is a growing rapidly. In February 2020, the Council of Ministers Responsible for Transportation and Highway Safety released the Strengthening School Bus Safety in Canada report from the federal, provincial and territorial Task Force on School Bus Safety, which developed a set of prioritized recommendations for the Council of Ministers to consider. The Task Force recommends that all jurisdictions explore the application of safety measures which include Stop Arm Cameras to help prevent dangerous incidents caused by passing motorists, and 360° Cameras as a means of better detecting and protecting children and other vulnerable road users around the exterior of the bus. The report estimates that 2.2 million Canadian school children travel to and from school every day on Canada’s 51,670 school buses.
Gatekeeper has significant experience in supplying cameras for school bus safety. During its operating history, the Company has sold over 100,000 cameras that are being used to help protect children while riding to and from school.
