6/5/2020 Contest update
(Contest YTD is calculated from 1/3/2020 close.)
Biotechs underperformed for another week, as investors placed their bets on stocks most likely to benefit from a strong post-Covid-19 recovery. Perhaps no better evidence for the growing confidence in a quick economic bounce back was the strength in airline stocks, with American Airlines stock skyrocketing almost 80% for the week. Time will tell whether such investor confidence is warranted or that their heads are in the clouds.
At Friday’s close, the Contest median was up 6.03% YTD (vs. up 7.68% YTD a week ago), the Nasdaq Biotech Index (NBI) was up 11.11% YTD (vs. up 13.84% YTD a week ago), the smaller-cap S&P Biotechnology Select Industry Index (SPSIBI) was up 10.27% YTD (vs. up 11.01% YTD a week ago), while the Nasdaq Composite Index (NCI) was up 8.79% YTD (vs. up 5.20% YTD a week ago).
FILO’s portfolio, up 134.42% YTD, remains in the Contest lead, with JBOG’s portfolio, up 109.43% YTD and DEWDIL’s portfolio, up 67.85% YTD, holding on to second and third place.
At Friday's close, 26 of the 42 Contest portfolios were in the green, with 18 beating the NBI and the same 18 beating the SPSIBI.
The 197 Contest stock picks have an average YTD gain of 23.68% with the YTD median at 1.38%.
Below is the Top Ten list. Also below are the Top 5 & Bottom 5 Stocks for the week ranked by % Gained and % Lost YTD. (Prices not converted to US$ in these Tables.)
Portfolio adjustments: None.
(All corrections, especially adjustments for splits & mergers, greatly appreciated.)
Stay safe and have a restful June weekend biotechies!
Peace & good health,
Bulba
