" Maybe they believe there is a break even speed where a customer won't move to a new service for an incrementally higher speed. In other words how much speed do you need. ( I always liked fast cars myself.) I think this is confusing the issue with investors. "

People, investors, and companies have to see that bandwidth is the future. It's not just speed in getting an internet page to your computer a little faster today. It's going to be video on demand. Video conferencing, streaming video off the internet, real time audio. Java applets and 3D VRML. Interactive games and shopping. Tons of stuff not even imagined today. I can't imagine POTS and xDSL rising to the challenge. I say the greatest hope for the future is in technologies such as LMDS. I can't imagine names like the long distance carriers, Baby Bells, WCOM, British Telecom, etc, etc, not being on the bidders list. What's everyones thoughts? Are they hiding behind partnerships? Going to let the little guys take all the risk and then buy them a few years down the road when systems are in place? I don't get it. Or is it that the future just doesn't include AT&T, baby bells, etc? They're willing to sit with each other in court while the future passes them by.
