Came across this week old article just now. The author, who BTW was short VTIQ (ouch), makes some interesting points. Food for thought if nothing else.

Questioning Nikola's Business Model Assumptions
Jun. 3, 2020 1:56 AM ET

Summary

The proposed VTIQ reverse merger with Nikola is reliant on business model assumptions which are out of step with recent industry experience.

Nikola's $173k FCEV truck build assumption appears to represent less than one-quarter the cost of commercial heavy duty FCEV offerings.

The range between hydrogen refueling appears to be considerably overstated.

Hydrogen station Capex and fuel production cost assumptions seem to be unjustifiably low.

Reforming the model toward breakeven will require significant carbon emissions by use of natural gas feedstock as fuel.
