that was 1836, in 1861 the south and north were in negotiation to see how the south would pay for the federal forts in those states. the agreement with lincoln and the war dept consent was all forts were to remain as they were with no changes until an agreement was reached ft sumter was under repairs and empty. during the night gen or col anderson (or close to that) led a force of union soldiers rowed over to the fort and took it over, breaking the agreement lincoln and the war dept were pissed at him. the south asked anderson to leave and ye didn't thus came the bombardment. the north started the war
