This reminds me. How stupid is IOM mgmt. ? Just when they need to
keep reminding WS that they are still cranking em' out they go
into radio silence. Tons of comdex hype then nothing, nada, zip (no pun) then they fail to meet some arbitrary WS estimate and still
no soothing spin.

I personally think it has to do with being in Utah. You can't
get more removed from WS (read reality).

My advise:
1) Spend $50MM of the $100MM advertising budget on a stock
buyback. They will get more positive lip from analysts if they put
their money where there mouths are. The stock should get a pop
and they can always sell it back later at a profit when they want
to do some real advertising.
2) Get a catchy audio "zipper" sound that they can integrate into their ad spots. Everyone knows the Intel
tune that plays when the logo appears. If they establish the zip/zipper icon/logo connection then they can move into the much cheaper radio ad area. Everyone listens to the radio, especially their target market of young people.

3) Stop missing all your ship dates. Either don't make promises to deliver, or do your testing completely first.

4) Junk these stupid rebate games. Keep the price fair and offer
discounts to large retailers, it will certainly cost less than this
snail mail rebate gaming. Do what audio tape makers do, offer 11 disks for the price of ten periodically when inventories are high.

5) Get John Glen to bring a zip disk into space. You know they must
have a PC or laptop up there and that old fossil will be getting huge
amounts of air time when he goes up. I'm sure NASA would be thrilled to get some corporate sponsorship. Put the "Zip built in" logo on the side of the shuttle before Nike gets there first. That's a much better use of the remaining $50MM ad budget.

Just my $0.02
