Nikon's problems with manufacturing excimer steppers surfaced as early as August (causing the Needham conference withdrawal), so this is in no way a "bombshell". The reported numbers are probably within the range of expectations (previous forecast for Nikon posted a few days ago was for 160 steppes for the same time period) - note that Nikon shares were slightly up after the release.

My personal opinion is that Nikon, just as many companies in US, is using SEA worries to mask the fact that they are losing market share to competition. Note that their I-line shipments through the period were for some reason not affected by SEA.
