Gates Goes on the Offensive During Silicon Valley Visit nytimes.com
Times tech/net beat guy John Markoff weighs in. Bill's blue suede shoes didn't make the trip. A diplomatic mission it wasn't. I will be brief here, it's a long article and people should make of it what they will
"I'm not a philosopher of the judiciary," he said when questioned about whether his strategy had irritated the judge. "I'm a software engineer."
Or, for John Donahoe, "I'm a doctor, Jim, not a" ... what? So, Bill's just a humble programmer, and all this stuff about the ruthless, cutthroat businessman we know and love is a bunch of hokum. On the legal front, there's another old saw that's relevant, "A guy who defends himself (in legal matters, I guess) has a fool for a client". Like I said after Monday's article about Intel, Microsoft, and antitrust, maybe Bill ought to adapt a little bit more of the Andy Grove- style paranoia and a little less of the immature whiner variety. Let the lawyers defend him, he's got some good ones.
Cheers, Dan. |
