Part 4: White Protest Voices - My cousine was raped by a fraternity man when she was 12. He was her grandfather, and my grandfather. He was also the founder of his small town branch of that fraternity you know. He was also the occasional ‘at gunpoint’ doctor to Chicago mobsters needing wound care following a robbery. His small town was a destination several times for them and family lore turned it into a sort of joke: ‘Ha ha ha, gunpoint. ROFLMAO.’ At his funeral the State department of medical examiner’s investigators attended and demanded records from his private medical clinic. They stated they had a filing cabinet drawer filled with women complaint allegations claiming sexual assault at his clinic. The boxes of his files were stacked in my uncle’s foyer out of reach to investigators that day. My parents kept this secret unto his grave. He was a monster. HIs older son, my father, did not join the fraternity, but his younger son did join. My cousin's own father and grandfather were members. For 50 years this story has been a private nightmare and while Roman priest rape stories are known by reports and occasionally investigated and prosecuted, these fraternity stories aren’t known nor investigated. I can tell you law firm doors close in your face when you seek advice. This group is apparently untouchable. She deserved and received our family’s protection from public shaming and the matter was handled out of court. It is now some 50-ish years later and until #metoo no public support for rape victims and justice has formed. Why the memory lane trip on a private matter? I believe in the right to gather for peaceful purposes and feel the same about this fraternity as I do the Church of Rome: I have had deep regard and affection for their members and the good deeds they perform. However, I seek REFORM. There must be change. There should be no impunity for an act of violence. How many victims were in that file cabinet? And, just thinking logically and rationally alongside what we know of Roman episodes, does this not suggest a pattern and practice? How many could that be Statewide or Nationwide? We cannot see into the soul of any person. Even a family member. Today our nation is rocked by new and ‘caught on video’ acts of ‘Death by Cop’. The street-level response has been unreasonable and unacceptable. This letter is intended to once again educate victims to learn whom is their enemy. Police departments hire Skill and Will. They cannot see into the soul of any person. Our border and immigration agents also cannot see into the soul of any person. If seditious agents are entering our country with violent intentions we simply cannot discover it in advance. We are right to be cautious and discriminatory and our bases must change with available facts. We must do a better job of preventing a Boston Bomber event. We likewise cannot know the seditious intentions of a Southern Confederate grandson who is a cop. We must do a better job of preventing a ‘Death by Cop’ event. This requires a tougher regime of discrimination: the good kind. Non-whites should recognize the need and welcome the change. We must pierce the veil of seditious activist hatred. Private police forces with private standards and impunity is not the answer. That leads to private and selective legal standards and a new tribal cast and class neighborhood zoning. That is a system of Sharia enforcement. We must reject divide and conquer tactics . We must remain united. Unity needs a renewed ritual or touchstone. I’m listening.
